Nutrition- Pg.2

Calories

Our love affair with the calorie has been a long and rocky one. We want to know yet we do not want to know. My clients have never liked counting calories. Once I explain the reasons why, they are more likely to comply.

  • It is the only way to know the “calorie in” part of the fat loss equation.
  • It will provide a wealth of nutritional information, e.g. calories from         fat.
  • I suggest three months of calorie counting to gain the needed caloric wisdom.

So where do you find reliable calorie/nutrition information?

  • Start with the nutritional labels that appear on many food products.
  • Free Journal+ called SuperTracker. See bottom of Documentation page.
  • Use a nutritional almanac. Free> http://nutritiondata.self.com/
  • Buy a computer nutrition program like DietPower®

DietPower is a nutritional/exercise tracking program that contains a database of over twenty thousand foods, with complete nutritional labels. You can input exercise sessions and minus them from your overall caloric needs in order to lose body fat. As with all good programs, there is a learning curve. The program includes a number of tutorials and 24/7 help via phone or e-mail. It sells for about $40, please see their web site for complete details and current cost.

fat lose is simple, but not easy

The above are my suggestions. You can use any nutritional program that makes sense to you. Feel free to experiment, as it is the key to success .Remember to consult with your physician if you have any underlying metabolic conditions. As long as you are burning 250 calories (depends on your body size and activity) with exercise, and eating 250 calories less, you will be seeing a weekly loss of approximately a ½-1 lb. of body fat per week.

Also, please remember that the foods we eat, we eat because of acquired taste! These are the foods our parents or culture told us to eat. This is a nice point to remember when you are fine tuning your nutrition. For example if you are trying to introduce brown rice, mix it with white a little bit a time. If you are trying to reduce sour cream, mix in plain yogurt a little bit at a time, until hopefully one day you will be using only yogurt on top of that potato.

There are many healthy alternatives to processed, sugary, or high fat foods. They taste great and will improve your nutrition, once you have acquired a taste for them.
